WILD NIGHT WAVES

Words and Music
©2002 B. Brubaker

Verse 1:
Dark Sky
Crescent moon
A soft eve late in June
A Fair Ship
Made port that day
In need of repair and someplace to stay

Instrument interlude 8 bars

Verse 2:
She was yar, sleek of form
A bit battered by the latest storm
But underneath, strong as could be
A sweeter craft had I never seen
Work on her
Was a labor of love
Into the night under the stars above
But a ship so fine
Belongs at sea
Not docked and tied to the likes of me

Reprise (him):
I can never be your Port of Call
I'm not safe harbor, no
I'm nothing at all
I'll use you up
And I'll cast you away
Get underway
Before I ask you to stay

Instrument interlude 16 - 32 bars

Verse 3:
When she had rested
A month and a day
The crescent moon shone
Again on the bay
Like a ghost in the shadows pale
She beckoned me
And made ready to sail

Reprise (her):
"Board my ship and we'll sail away
I hear the words you're unable to say
Better to drown than to fade away
We'll ride together on the wild night waves"

Reprise (him):
I can never be your Port of Call
I'm not safe harbor, no
I'm nothing at all
I'll use you up
And I'll cast you away
Get underway
Before I ask you to stay

Instrument interlude 16 - 32 bars

Epilogue (him)
And at the end
When my days are through
And last look upon the crescent moon
I'll recall a Fair Ship made port that day
how I loved her, but sent her on her way

I see her now, rounding the bay
Now at last I can finally say
"I'll board your ship and we'll sail away
We'll ride forever on the wild night waves"
